The Reconciliation Chapter 5

Chapter 5 – Moving

From ancient times to now, homosexuality has always been a very controversial topic, especially in the entertainment circle. Fanservice involving queer baiting and forming CP’s1 are accepted, however, any outright declarations as being gay is just downright an excuse to leave the industry.

In the beginning of the industry’s formation, everyone would be afraid of this topic. Even if one was gay, they wouldn’t dare to reveal it even a little, in fear people would notice.

However, ever since a few years ago, there have been many people, all with differing magnitudes of popularities, that started to self-disclose their own sexual orientation and the fact that they like the same sex in succession. Yu Xi understood that the cause to this phenomenon was due to a celebrity who, because they disclosed their sexual orientation, was attacked online, suppressed by their company, and then blocked out by the government.

This caused the celebrity to be extremely depressed. Ultimately, they decided to end their life at home.

Her suicide note mentioned her psychological journey along the whole way. Her final sentence was an ‘I’m sorry’.

Whether this last sorry was written for her parents, her fans, or her lover.

No one knows.

Within a week, her lover also chose to do the same and ended her life.

At the time, this situation caused quite a controversy. Countless news media and fans all paid close attention to this. The powers at the top tried to suppress the public opinion, however, this only resulted in the opposite reaction. Like a spring, the harder they tried to push all of the news and discussion down, the more fervent this situation broke out.

Afterwards, more and more people started to get involved, all declaring that same-sex love is not a crime.

At that time, Yu Xi was still attending school so she didn’t really know the entire story.

However, after this occurred, people started to express themselves more and come out as gay. In addition, more and more couples popped up on Weibo, being all lovey-dovey. It was not long ago that a new actor who entered the industry proclaimed his love for the film emperor, Lu Yisheng, and was henceforth blacked before growing popular2.

Hence, when Yu Xi came out and said her first love was a girl, it was not to the point where people cannot accept it. Instead, there were quite a few people who even complimented her as being genuine.

However, the whole situation where she talked back to the reporters and even smashed the microphone caused people to have complaints towards her.

Yu Xi looked at the hot search that quickly shot up on Weibo. The contents of the hot search was a video. The video showed her side profile and even had subtitles that matched what she was saying. The commentators below the video immediately began having a fervent discussion.

——As expected, rumors that Yu Xi is arrogant really did not come out from nowhere.

——Who does she still think she is? Isn’t she just a celebrity? Tch, if you didn’t have fans, then you’ll be eating S!

——Smashing the microphone, tsk tsk tsk. The last celebrity who did this already has grass that’s three feet high over his grave3.

——Just because she has someone supporting her from behind!

——I don’t think there’s anything wrong with anything Yu Xi said. She’s an actress. She’s in charge of filming only, she doesn’t have to make every part of her private information public. Besides, who doesn’t have privacy, why does she have to show it to you guys? Isn’t her work her best explanation? On top of that, those paparazzi are sickening enough too, even jabbing the microphone into her chin. Disgusting.

——You can’t say it like that. She’s a public figure, she’s supposed to tell the public everything.

——The guy upstairs, what crap are you saying? Public figures have to reveal everything to the public? Do you know many meals celebrity XX eats, how many times they drink water, or use the restroom? They’re both public figures, why are you treating them differently? Moreover, I support Yu Xi coming out as gay!

Before Yu Xi could finish reading the comments, she received Bai Yutang’s life-threatening phone call.

“Yu Xi, what exactly happened?”

“Did you not hear anything I told you? I told you to not get in contact with the media, not to talk with them, why did you not listen to me!”

“How perfect, I haven’t even published our own things in response yet, now how do you want me to suppress this news?”

The moment Bai Yutang’s call connected, there was a non-stop stream of criticism. Yu Xi listened to her solemnly for a few seconds, “I didn’t throw the microphone.”

Her sudden comment almost didn’t stop Bai Yutang’s lecture. She exhaled, “Of course, I know. So, what exactly happened?”

Yu Xi recapped what exactly happened, leaving nothing from the beginning to the end, including the part where she talked back to the reporters.  Bai Yutang frowned while listening to her, “You’re saying that you were stopped at the back of the company?”

“En.”

Bai Yutang inhaled deeply, “I know now. Give your phone to Zhong Chen.”

Yu Xi pulled her phone away, glancing over at the shivering Zhong Chen. The corners of the mouth hooking up slightly, she said, “Bai-jie wants to talk to you.”

Zhong Chen blinked, showing an expression that seemed to display her lack of wanting to live anymore. With a mindset of embracing death, she took the phone, “Bai-jie…”

A firecracker immediately sounded off at the other end of the phone. Zhong Chen glanced over at Yu Xi and walked out of the car.

It was only after about ten minutes Zhong Chen finished taking the call and returned to the car. She had been weeping, “Bai-jie wants me to send you back. She says that she’ll take care of the media.”

Yu Xi nodded, “Get in the car.”

After climbing into the car, Zhong Chen placed the phone into her bag. When she realized how much trouble they were in, she didn’t return to the company immediately. However, afraid that Bai Yutang would call them back the moment she found out, Zhong Chen had the car stopped a nearby alley.

At this moment, the black car slowly rolled out of the alley. Zhong Chen looked out the windows that had been blocked by a black film and once again sighed, thinking about how inauspicious this year had been.

The amount of times she’s been yelled at this month had far exceeded the previous years’ worth!

Contrarily, the other involved party still had on a look of innocence on her face as if nothing was wrong.

Bai Yutang’s actions were very quick. Before they even reached the apartment, Bai Yutang had already published her own response and in turn, also very quickly sent it up the hot search.

Two hot searches hung side by side.

One of them was: actress has no ethics, openly talking back to reporters, and smashing microphone!

The other one was: actresses do not deserve a right to privacy, but please at least respect them.

Zhong Chen clicked into the hot search on the bottom. It was another video. This video clearly showed that Yu Xi had handed the microphone out instead, with the paparazzi even reaching out to grab it. However, right as their hands touched, the paparazzi suddenly retracted his hand, causing the microphone to fall onto the ground.

In the video, they can also see that at the time, none of the other paparazzi were moving, much less shoving, so there existed no reason that he wasn’t able to grab onto the microphone.

The only possible cause was that the paparazzi did it on purpose.

Purposely letting the microphone fall onto the ground.

The video was a slap right on the face of those commentators that were blaming Yu Xi.

Yu Xi’s fanclub also gathered and did everything to cooperate the paid fans4 Bai Yutang found. There were also quite a few objective people. The comments started to develop towards the anticipated direction.

Zhong Chen skimmed through it before handing the phone over to Yu Xi.

Yu Xi tilted her head, looking over at the screen.

——Where are the top commentators on the first hot search? Aiyo, don’t delete your comments, I’ve already screenshotted it so talk. All you had to do was eat your melon5, why would you have to respond in that indignant of a way?  You think we don’t know you guys are professional Xixi anti-fans?

——This round of face slapping came so quick like a tornado. I’ve suddenly became Yu Xi’s fan.

——Me too! What a suave answer!

——Shouldn’t that paparazzi come out and apologize? They feel good trying to get views off of this? Did they suck enough blood from this?  If not, want us to send some to your magazine company?

——【Picture】【Picture】【Picture】If at that time the one I liked could be as brave as Yu Xi and dared to talk back to the reporters, would she not have left then?

——Damn, the comment above, why would you mention Xiao-jiejie? I’m about to cry again!

——Don’t mention her, don’t mention her. Whenever I think of her, my heart starts to hurt badly. What’s wrong with gay people? Same-sex marriage is already legal in other countries. It’s only our country H that is still inflexible and willing to recognize them.

After taking a few glances, Yu Xi took the phone and sent Bai Yutang a message: Where did you get the video?

Bai Yutang replied very quickly: We just recently installed a camera at the back. A high definition, 50 million pixel one.

Yu Xi: …….

Indeed, it was high definition enough.  Even the paparazzi’s cocky expression was clearly shown. Yu Xi pursed her lips and closed the phone.

Having learned from her previous mistakes, Zhong Chen told the driver to stop the car nearby the apartment to examine their surroundings. Yu Xi looked towards her thief-like demeanor and laughed, “What’s wrong again?”

Zhong Chen looked around and said, “Pretty good, there’s not much people around.”

Perhaps they had all went to the company to block the entrance there. There were only a few paparazzi hanging around nearby the apartment building. The car drove into the complex.  Zhong Chen received Bai Yutang’s message telling her to help Yu Xi pack up and immediately move out.

Yu Xi nodded, “Okay, let’s pack up then.”

They already sent some over yesterday, and it wasn’t as if they stayed there for long periods of time before, so Yu Xi’s luggage was not much. They only managed to pack up one suitcase.

The new house was a bit far from the old one. It was thirty minute away and they still had to stop at red lights. By the time they reached the new apartment complex, it was already almost the afternoon. After she got out of the car, Zhong Chen followed close behind and said, “Xixi, what do you think? There’s a mall right outside the complex and transportation here is convenient. On top of that, there’s a lot of celebrities who live here so the security is first-rate. There’s no need to worry about paparazzi following us here!”

Yu Xi listened to her chatting on and nodded, “Not bad.”

Zhong Chen looked up, “Are you talking about the security guards?”

Yu Xi thought about it, “I meant the landscaping here is not bad.”

Zhong Chen, “……”

How do two people with different brain wirings chat properly?

Like chickens talking with ducks6!

Zhong Chen shut herself up. Carrying Yu Xi’s suitcase, she walked up to the front entrance and passed over to her two cards, “This one’s for the elevator and this one’s for the apartment.”

Yu Xi nodded and took them, “Which floor?”

Zhong Chen replied, “Seventeen.”

Yu Xi pressed the floor number. The elevator slowly moved up and opened when it reached the floor. Yu Xi saw two doors. Zhong Chen pointed at one of them, “That way.”

Yu Xi swiped the card key and entered. She looked around the surroundings, it was pretty similar to the pictures Zhong Chen sent her yesterday. The apartment was clean and organized. It was currently the afternoon, the light shone in the place, causing the place to feel bright and spacious. The moment she opened the door to the balcony, her phone started to sound nonstop.

She originally thought it was Bai Yutang calling to lecture her again, but when she looked at the phone, the screen revealed Han Yisi’s name.

Yu Xi picked up the phone and a very familiar greeting resounding from the other end, “What happened? I read that you smashed a microphone from the hot searches?”

“Couldn’t you have began with something different?” Yu Xi pursed her lips up, returning from the balcony to the living room and sitting down on the couch.

Hearing her reply, Han Yisi was puzzled, “Began with what?”

Yu Xi started to act and imitated her tone from the phone call last time, “What happened? I just went online and saw that you said you like women?”

Amused, Han Yisi laughed and said, “Don’t mess around. What actually happened?”

Yu Xi thought about it for a bit, “Was conned.”

Han Yisi linked the two hot searches together and blurted out, “The paparazzi?”

Yu Xi simply hummed in agreement, immediately asking instead, “You’re resting for quite a long time this time round, even having the time to care about gossip found from the internet?”

Han Yisi laughed, “I requested leave.”

“On leave?” Yu Xi frowned, “What’s wrong?”

Han Yisi was puzzled once more, “Nothing’s wrong. Don’t tell me you still don’t know what’s up?”

Yu Xi raised her eyebrows, “What is it?”

Han Yisi replied angrily, “My goddaughter was born.”

“She was born last night. Hasn’t Xiao Jing contacted you yet?”

“Not yet.”

Han Yisi comforted her, “It was probably because she read the news and knew you’ll be busy these two days, so she didn’t want to bother you.”

Yu Xi nodded and simply said a few more word to Han Yisi before closing the phone. Zhong Chen had already set the things in the suitcase out in the room. Seeing Yu Xi close the phone, she asked, “Xixi, what do you want to eat? I’ll go buy it.”

“No need.” Yu Xi shook her hands, “I’m not hungry, why don’t you go back first.”

Seeing her tired expression, Zhong Chen felt sorry for her. She said, “Do you want me to stay with you?”

Yu Xi tilted her head, lip corners hooking up in seemingly smile, she replied, “How do you want to stay with me? Do you want to take a bath with me too?”

Zhong Chen choked on her saliva. She immediately rolled her eyes before saying, “I’m leaving.”

“Good! Bye!”

Right as the front doors closed, Yu Xi rubbed her cheeks. She looked down, scanning over her own figure. What is it, was she also being disliked by her own assistant?

In the elevator, Zhong Chen patted her own cheeks, trying to come out from the embarrassment of being teased by her goddess. Even when she walked out from the elevator, she still maintained a face fully red and a lowered head position.

She accidentally knocked into someone. Immediately apologizing, she said, “I’m so sorry.”

A familiar voice resounded over, “It’s alright.”

The tone of the voice was cold and distant. Zhong Chen looked up and was surprised, “Jiang, Jiang, President Jiang?”

Jiang Jingbai looked up at her. Zhong Chen rushed to introduce herself, “President Jiang, hello. I’m Yu Xi’s assistant, we met at the company today.”

“Hello.” Jiang Jingbai nodded slightly as a greeting.

As she spoke, she brushed past Zhong Chen. As Zhong Chen was looking up, she managed to see her side profile, causing her to freeze in place.

Right as the elevator door was closing, she started to furiously call Yu Xi.

“Xixi! I have big news!”

Yu Xi was just about to enter the bathroom for a bath. Hearing Zhong Chen’s words, she stopped and stood in place. Expression ever indifferent, she asked, “Did Weibo blow up again?”

“No, it’s not Weibo, it’s you.”

Yu Xi frowned, “Me?”

Zhong Chen gulped, “I think you’ll blow up.”

“Speak clearly.”

Zhong Chen cleared her throat, “I just realized who your neighbor is.”

Yu Xi felt her heart thump, “Who?”

Summoning courage, Zhong Chen said, “The new boss, President Jiang.”

Right after speaking, she pulled the phone away from her ear, thinking that Yu Xi will get angry and accuse her of being incompetent. She didn’t expect that after listening to her, Yu Xi fell into silence instead before finally responding with an, “Oh.”

Zhong Chen was stupefied, what did this oh mean?
